Turning towards the Light

As we pass through the longest darkest nights of winter there are celebrations of the return of the light worldwide reminding us of the renewal of hope and possibilities. Watching the Supermoon rise this evening reminded me that even in the darkest times there is always light to be found. It often takes being willing to directly engage with what you fear in order to move through to what is on the other side of that darkness. At a SomatoEmotional Release Training in November I was brought to a very dark place inside myself and with the beautiful support of the practitioners around me was able to discover a new relationship with the dark. I became viscerally aware that the dark is necessary to really see and embody the light. Here is a poem from that experience.
Unrealized
The dark, the mystery, the cave, the pressure,
the weight of the world, impossibly heavy
is how diamonds of insight are born.
Unrealized in the dark - they wait.
Only courageous soul-spelunking
allows the river of light
to illuminate the treasure
